Installing Jabber Server on your machines

have U ever use GTalk (google talk) a google instant messaging, its a great kind of instant messenger but still it’s internet bandwidth required but what should we do when we want those kind of instant messaging on our network ?, one of the solution are installing a Jabber server and a Jabber Client and what you all should do is

  • Download a jabber server and I’m using Openfire in this case
  • Make sure you have a web, database server & PHP inteprater and I’m using (Apache2, MySQL 5,PHP5)
  • And also make sure you have an Operating systems (hahahahah)
  • On MS Windows all you have to do is install the Openfire installer by double click it (haha piece of cake) and on linux with rpm package supported like (RH,SuSE,MDK) or if you have any spare time you can repackage it to another linux installer, but in a RPM package supported linux you can do #rpm -ivh openfire*.rpm
  • Run the service, on MS Windows just click the start openfire button :D on linux you can use #/opt/openfire/bin/openfire start
  • Test the service open http://localhost:9090 to make sure the openfire are running and to setup the jabber server
  • then configure your host, database & admin password
  • create a users and your jabber server are ready to use
  • to operate your Instant messaging service use your account to logon to the service and enter the server paramater with you jaber server IP / hostname
